在实践中探索英语教学及21世纪新技能

      In order to make full use of Oxford textbooks and teach moresystematically, ESL Teaching and Teachers’ Recruitment Office invites Mr. Ron Molenda, the Professional Development Manager of Oxford University Press in China who has over 13 years’ English language teachingexperience, to give tour workshops which highlight the main features ofEverybody Up andOxford Discover Courses in Maple Leaf schools, and our turn came on Oct. 12th and 13th.All elementary school and middle school GEP teachers from Wuhan and Jingzhou campuses joined this training.  

      为了让老师们更合理并充分地运用教材,授以学生们更系统、丰富的知识,集团ESL教学与外教招聘办公室特别邀请了拥有长达13年英语教育工作经验的牛津大学出版社(中国)学习专业发展经理Ron Molenda先生在枫叶各校区对牛津教材Everybody Up和Oxford Discover进行巡回培训。培训师于10月12日和13日来到武汉校区,荆州、武汉大英语工程的全体初小教师参加了此次培训。

      Participants attended two EU observation classes on the morning of Oct. 12. In Amanda’s Gr. 4 class, she strengthened the understanding and using ofsuperlatives and comparatives through card games, students’ description, sentences andrepetition. While Gr. 1 students learned how to recognize, pronounce, spell the shape and color words in Kevin’s fun andwell-scheduled class,

      10月12日上午首先安排了两节小学外教的观摩课。在四年级的课堂上,Amanda老师用抽卡片游戏、学生陈述、造句和反复跟读等方法,强化学生们对比较级和最高级的理解与运用。Kevin老师则以形状和颜色的认知、发音、拼写及造句为内容,让一年级的小学生们从课堂上随手可及的物品中学习;两位老师幽默又紧凑的课堂风格给大家留下了深刻的印象。

      The workshop started with agiveaway of introducing OUPhistory, values and missions. The Oxford Wechat and App “Approach” provide aworld-wide platform for teachers’ teaching and learning.

      培训之前,Mr. Molenda以互动问答的形式向老师们介绍了牛津大学出版社的历史、观念和宗旨;微信公众号和“牛津师道”App的推广也为今后老师们在教学中探索问题及解决方案提供了更广阔和专业的平台。

      ForEverybody Up, participants experienced and realized the true purpose of activities and games in practice. Mr. Molendaemphasized that more repetition, morepositive attitude and more student direction are the key factors to achieve betterresults. Teachers shoulddifferentially takeadvantage of the outlines, lesson plans and activities in Teachers’ Book to teach students skills and abilities.

      12日的培训主要针对小学Everybody Up教材。Mr. Molenda通过换座位找搭档对话、闪卡的使用方法等活动,让老师们亲自体验课堂游戏的真正目的,以及如何在课堂中推进。他强调,有趣的活动、合理利用教师“权威”、反复的练习、积极的态度和以学生为导向的教学才能让学生们喜欢学习、善于学习;而在授课的同时,老师们应充分利用教师用书中提供的教学参考大纲和教案,有区别地通过游戏和活动让学生们在实践中获得知识。

      Participants attended Ted’s Gr. 8 OD observation classon the second morning. He set awhole-class multiple-choice competition with full students’ participation andwisedup students to the tips of note-taking.

      13日上午是外教Ted老师以“职业”为内容的八年级观摩课;Ted老师通过选择题比赛的形式,达到了课堂全员参与的效果;而后的听写和问答环节也向学生们传授了有效记笔记的方法。

      ForOxford Discover, Mr. Molenda came up with anintriguing question about how to cross a river with fox,chicken and seeds, andprobed into the 21st century skills and how they help (i.e. creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and cross-culturalawareness) with participants. Hedissected the textbooks andanalyzed every single section’s functions andobjectives tostress the importance of teaching procedures andintegrated teachingstructure, anddemonstrated how to engage students at different levels to learn and to improve.

      随后的培训主要针对Oxford Discover教材。Mr. Molenda以有趣的“狐狸、鸡和种子过河”问题,和大家探讨了21世纪新技能(创造力、批判性思维、交流、合作、跨文化意识)及其重要意义和课堂运用;并通过剖析教材,分析各个模块的作用和目的,强调了每一个教学步骤和整体教学结构的重要性,以及如何更好地使不同英语水平的学生相互学习、共同提高、学以致用。

      The workshop received a strong and encouraging response. Teachers from Wuhan and Jingzhou campuses got together todiscuss the course methodology and 21st century skills, explore the values of courses,put forward the questions and solutions inteaching, and exchange their teachingexperience.

      培训的每一个板块都得到了大家的积极响应和参与。荆州和武汉校区的老师们相互探讨课程方法论、21世纪新技能等,并且结合培训内容和自身授课经验,提出了自己在教学中的问题和改进措施。
