枫叶12种核心教学策略分享学习——记大英语工程12月集体教研

    Classroom teaching is one of the most commonly used methods of carrying out Maple Leaf curriculum. Teaching strategies with clear goals and optimized methods can arouse students’ interest and positivity in study. Wuhan Maple Leaf adheres to the Maple Leaf educational philosophy of “blending the best of China and the West, striving for excellence in education” and provides the first-class education to all students. Therefore, to choose and apply good teaching strategies is of great significance. On the afternoon of December 28, all staff of Greater English Project had a workshop on the first three of the “Maple Leaf 12 Key Teaching Strategies” – Visual Exemplars, Scaffolding Lessons, and Think-Pair-Share (or Partner Talk).

           课堂教学是课程实施的主要途径,有明确目标和优化方法的教学策略更能够引发学生的学习热情,变被动学习为主动学习。武汉枫叶一直秉承枫叶教育“融会中西,精诚育人”的宗旨,将中外最优质的教育教学资源引进校园,为所有学生提供一流的教育服务。因此如何合理选择和运用教学策略对于枫叶教学活动的实效性有着重要意义。12月28日下午,大英语工程全体教师以“枫叶12种核心教学策略”为主题进行了集体教研,本次教研主要学习前三条策略,即直观教学、脚手架式教学、思考-结对-分享(亦称同伴交流法)。

    Jennifer introduced and shared the first three teaching strategies and her experience. On “Visual Exemplars”, organized, uncluttered and multiple exemplars can trigger students’ interest in study. Take the Halloween PPT for example; students can visually see the difference of two similar names of a ghost. Daisy also shared her visual exemplars in science class. She asked her students to touch the 3-D shapes in a box and then tell the names. On “Scaffolding Lessons”, Jennifer showed us how she broke a “Compare and Contrast Essay” lesson into manageable chunks and guided students to complete their essays with transition words. On “Think-Pair-Share”, it can be used for any subject and can get students to think and discuss, or summarize what they have learned.

           Jennifer老师首先为大家介绍了这三种教学策略并分享了她在教学中的运用。在直观教学方面,有序、简洁、多样的例子能更引起学生兴趣,比如万圣节关于鬼怪的图片和词汇PPT让学生更直观地学习;Daisy老师也分享了她让学生通过在暗箱中触摸物体学习物体形状的方法。在脚手架式教学方面,Jennifer以“对比和比较作文”为例,分享了她如何将课堂分解为可操控的模块,并提供关联词汇来指导学生完成作文写作;在思考-结对-分享方面,她指出任何一个事物都可以成为思考和讨论的主题,学生间可以相互提出具体问题或总结他们刚学到的知识。

     In order to enable teachers to better see the benefit of Think-Pair-Share, bilingual and international teachers discussed “the biggest difference between Chinese and Western styles of teaching” through this strategy. Our teachers came up with many ideas. Chinese style focuses more on details, and Chinese teachers are more willing to dedicate their extra time to tutor students; while international teachers give more freedom to students to create, and their classes are more abundant in activities and are more diversified. There is no right or wrong answer. It is the features of the languages itself that determines the teaching style, and it is Maple Leaf who blends the best of both so that our students can benefit to the greatest extend.

           为了使老师们更好地认识“思考-结对-分享”这一策略,中外教以“中西方教学方式的最大差异”为主题,进行了小组交流。各组都踊跃发言:中国的教育更注重细节,中国老师更愿意付出自己的业余时间和精力去帮助辅导学生等;西方的教育给予学生更多的自由,课堂活动相对更丰富、课堂元素相对更加多元化。这里没有对与错,语言自身的性质决定了其教授方式,然而正是枫叶的中西优化结合才使课堂效率最大化,使枫叶学子成为受益人。

    The December workshop was winded up along with the 2016 ending bell. The teaching strategies boost the integrity, systematization and scientization of Maple Leaf teaching theories, and invigorate teachers’ teaching activities.

           12月的集体教研伴随着2016岁末的钟声结束了。教学策略的学习促进了枫叶教学理论的完整性、系统化和科学化,为枫叶教师的教育实践注入了无限活力。
